This simple homemade apple crisp is one of my favorite ways to use fresh apples, especially once fall rolls around. I love using Honeycrisp apples, but you can use your favorite baking apple or a combination of varieties. Serve it warm with homemade whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Serves: 6–8
Bake Temperature: 375°F
Bake Time: Approximately 45 minutes
Ingredients
Apple Filling
- 10 apples, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- ½ cup sugar
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
Crisp Topping
- ⅔ cup all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup light brown sugar
- ¼ cup sugar
- ½ cup old-fashioned oats
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- ½ cup (1 stick) butter, room temperature
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease a 9 × 13-inch baking dish and set aside.
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, lemon juice, sugar, and flour. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
3. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it into an even layer.
4. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, sugar, oats, cinnamon, and room-temperature butter.
5. Work the mixture together with a fork or your fingertips until everything is well combined. The topping should be crumbly and clumpy.
6. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
7. Bake for approximately 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling around the edges.
8. Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with homemade whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
Enjoy!
