Plate of chocolate chip granola bars

Granola Bars

I found this recipe on TikTok and decided to put my own spin on it! Original video from @sabrinastolin. A few things to note here...

1. Oats are a crop heavily sprayed with glyphosate. For that reason, I always opt for high quality organic oats. We also eat oats in moderation, as well as wheat, for the same reason.

2. The original recipe was gluten free. Feel free to use almond flour, or a different gluten free flour instead of wheat flour.

3. This recipe is super versatile! Use whatever you have. You use avocado or coconut oil. Any type of sugar will work. Use raisins, nuts, peanut butter! The possibilities are endless.

Ingredients:

4 cups organic old fashioned oats

¼ cup organic hemp hearts

1 heaping tbps flour (I used organic king arthur all purpose)

¼ tsp sea salt

Skant ¼ cup coconut sugar (a little less than ¼ cup)

½ cup avocado oil

½ cup local raw honey

1 cup high quality chocolate chips. I prefer milk chocolate but use what you like! (check ingredient list for seed oils! We like Ghirardelli)

Directions:

Preheat your oven to 325° and line a large cookie tray with unbleached parchment paper.

In a large bowl, combine your oats, hemp hearts, flour, salt and coconut sugar. Add your chocolate chips and stir.

In a seperate small bowl, mix together your oil and honey until well combined. Add your wet mixture into your dry and combine until evenly coated.

Dump your granola mixture onto your prepared cookie sheet and press down with a large spatula until everything is nice and even. Bake in the oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until your granola is golden brown.

Wait atleast 1 hour to cut into bars.

Hi made these and baked for the recommended time at 325F but they scorched. Bummer but I’m questioning the accuracy of my oven temperature. I used chocolate chips, dates, pecans and the ingredients the recipe called for (except for the coconut sugar) . Even scorched they’re pretty good. Next time I’ll try a half batch and switch up the add ins.
