This Salisbury steak recipe has been a favorite in our house for years. It's one of those meals that's simple to throw together, uses basic pantry ingredients, and always hits the spot. Tender beef patties smothered in homemade gravy... it doesn't get much better than that! I love serving it over mashed potatoes with a side of vegetables or homemade sourdough for a quick and comforting dinner!
Patties
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 2 teaspoons ketchup
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
Homemade Gravy
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
Directions
- Combine all of the patty ingredients in a large bowl and gently massage everything together until well combined. Form into patties.
- Heat about 1 tablespoon of tallow in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the patties on both sides until nicely browned, then reduce the heat to low.
- While the patties are cooking, make the gravy. In a small saucepan, melt the butter. Whisk in the flour and cook for 2–3 minutes. Slowly whisk in the beef broth until smooth and allow the gravy to come to a gentle simmer until it thickens.
- Pour the gravy over the patties in the skillet. I like to give the patties a little flip so they're coated in the gravy. Cover and let everything simmer until the patties are fully cooked through.
Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, buttered noodles, or alongside your favorite vegetables. Enjoy!
